Learn everything you need to know about FoxFarm brand nutrients, fertilizers, and soils!
FoxFarm products are far more than a fancy potting soil in colorful, creative packaging. If you’ve never heard of them, this is your chance to learn about them and discover exactly why they are a trusted brand and how their products can benefit you and your plants.
A little FoxFarm FYI
FoxFarm Soil & Fertilizer Company sprouted in 1984 out of a desire to provide something better for the world, something natural, something good. At that time, the nation was coming out of the social movements of the 60’s and 70’s. Riding on the strong sense of oneness and community that came out of that era, FoxFarm took root in Humboldt County, California with an idea that revolutionized the gardening industry.
Commercial soil providers were – and still are today – producing soil mixes that were sterilized and completely devoid of microbes. If you’ve taken a peek at any of our articles about living soil, you know that these microbes are essential for proper plant health and growth. They literally work with the plants’ root systems to help uptake vital nutrients so they can produce their best.
FoxFarm was one of the first companies who dared put out a potting soil mix that was not sterilized, but instead fortified with beneficial microbes, fungus and nutrients to give plants everything they craved to grow bigger and bloom better.
Today they’ve bloomed into an internationally recognized brand, supplying growers great and small around the world.
FoxFarm FAQ
FoxFarm goes over and beyond when it comes to putting their time and attention into the products they produce. They spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours developing and testing their mixes and formulas in their own greenhouses. They’re seriously committed to the quality of their products.
As the CEO and Founder of the company, FoxFarm Willy states in the video on the About page on their website: “Don’t treat your soil like dirt.”
Here are a few popular questions we get about FoxFarm supplies:
Are fox farm products organic?
Many of their products are 100% organic and are formulated specifically with flowering plants in mind.
Some of their products do use synthetic nutrients. This is because a synthesized mineral fertilizer can offer exactly what your plants need when they need it most. They can provide targeted, fast-acting benefits.
FoxFarm takes extra care to choose only the finest-quality ingredients for their fertilizers, whether they are natural or synthetic. They never use cheap fillers or low-grade industrial chemicals.
Can I burn my plants with FoxFarm products?
FoxFarm’s liquid fertilizer products are concentrated and should never be applied directly to the soil. So long as you use a bit of common sense and follow the directions on the package, you’ll minimize the risk of accidentally burning your plants.
Can I mix FoxFarm fertilizers with products from other companies?
Not all products are created equal. Using one brand of product along with another brand of product can result in you either burning your plants by adding too many nutrients, or causing nutrient lock out.
FoxFarm products are designed through years of testing and research to complement each other. So, it’s in your best interests to “keep it in the family,” so to speak.
Will I taste chemicals if I use FoxFarm’s Grow Big or Tiger Bloom?
Tasting chemicals in your plants is usually the result of over-fertilizing towards the end of the plant’s life cycle. Towards the end it’s always best to ease off feeding, as the plants are usually eating less at this stage anyway. So long as you stick to the directions and recommended feeding cycles, you should not have this problem with FoxFarm nutrients.
How do I store FoxFarm products?
The company recommends storing their products in a cool, dry place that stays between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit (or 4 – 32 degrees Celsius). We also recommend storing any gardening products out of direct sunlight as well.
How to get your hands on FoxFarm goodies
Unfortunately, FoxFarm does not sell their products directly, nor do they sell through online retailers like Amazon or Ebay. While you CAN find FoxFarm online, it comes from 3rd-party sellers and the company cannot guarantee the quality of the product nor the honesty of the seller. Beware: Scams abound!
